The 2015 Route
Destination Montenegro
Geja has sailed
through Montenegro before, but always passing through on the way to somewhere else. This year we’ll slow down and soak in all that this country’s amazing coastline has to offer. Of course, there’s plenty to see in Croatia as well while transiting the Dalmatian coast from Split down to the border.

Typically there are a total of three people aboard. If two people share what is usually the captain’s cabin up front, four people can be accommodated. Read more in the frequently asked questions.

Croatia in particular is a very easy, safe, and affordable place to travel. When booking flights in and out of Croatia, don’t hesitate to jump on a cheaper/faster flight even if it means that you would arrive too early (or depart too late). Rooms in private homes are cheap and plentiful throughout the country, or maybe there would be room on the boat.

Try SkyScanner.net and Kayak.com to research flights within Europe. SkyScanner is particularly good at piecing together itineraries from multiple budget airlines.

Presenting version 1.0 of this summer’s route, last updated on June 9, 2015...

July 12 – 18 (full)

Leg 1: Split to Lastovo, Croatia

This exact part of Croatia’s
Dalmatian Coast may just be the most popular sailing venue in the entire Mediterranean, and for good reason. The leg is bookended by wonderfully preserved Venetian island towns, and includes a stay in Hvar, home to famous party spots like Hula Hula Bar and Carpe Diem. Of course, there will be quiet nights spent in idyllic anchorages as well, of which Croatia has plenty.

- Fly to/from Split (SPU) and/or Dubrovnik (DBV)

July 19 – 25 (full)

Leg 2: Lastovo to Dubrovnik, Croatia

Leaving Korcula,
one of Croatia’s must-see island towns, the voyage continues among the southernmost islands of the Dalmatian Coast. July 26 – August 1 (full)

Leg 3: Dubrovnik, Croatia to Budva, Montenegro

This leg features
cultural significance (two UNESCO World Heritage Sites), stunning scenery (part of Montenegro resembles a Norwegian fjord), and crazy nightlife (Budva has changed a lot since “Pippi Longstocking on the Seven Seas” was filmed there). Gone are the hordes of Western tourists found in Croatia, replaced by Serbians, Russians, and Ukrainians. It’s a short sail across the border, but you really get the feeling that you’ve gone somewhere quite different.

- Fly to/from Dubrovnik (DBV) and/or Tivat (TIV)

August 2 – 8 (full)

Leg 4: Budva, Montenegro to Dubrovnik, Croatia

Likely hungover, the crew
will sail Geja further south from Budva, exploring this off-the-beaten-path coast. It won’t take more than a day or two of casual sailing to reach Montenegro’s southernmost harbor, the ancient seaport of Ulcinj, a lively beach town near the Albanian border. On the way back north, the skipper will celebrate his birthday in the Budva Riviera before ending the leg in or near Dubrovnik, “The Pearl of the Adriatic.”

- Fly to/from Tivat (TIV) and/or Dubrovnik (DBV)

August 9 – 15 (full)

Leg 5: Dubrovnik, Croatia to Korcula, Croatia

Leaving magical
Dubrovnik, Geja heads back up the Dalmatian Coast. The Elaphiti Islands, walled town of Ston, and Mljet will all be visited en route to Korcula, one of the Croatia’s must-see towns. This is the week in which the Italians invade Croatia, ever lively and Speedo-clad.

- Fly to/from Dubrovnik (DBV), and/or Split (SPU)

August 16-22 (maybe one spot left)

Leg 6: Korcula to Split, Croatia

From Korcula, sometimes
referred to as a mini-Dubrovnik, the voyage continues up the coast. By midweek, Geja will reach Makarska, a mainland party spot that features an after-hours club in a cave. The highlight reel continues in Bol on the island Brac, home to Croatia’s most famous beach, Zlatni Rat. Somewhere in between, Geja will spend a (detox) night in one of the most idyllic anchorages in all of Croatia.

- Fly to/from Split (SPU)

August 23-30 (available)

Leg 7: Cruising near Split, Croatia

Sometimes one doesn’t re
ally need a destination, particularly in the ever-popular central Dalmatian Coast near Split. The islands of Hvar, Vis, and Brac are all within easy reach, with the typical Croatian blend of lively harbor towns, quiet anchorages, and crystal clear water. With no schedule to which to stick, this will be a most relaxing final week of the 2015 voyage.
